Bihar Industries Minister Nitish Mishra inaugurated the state’s first Dry Port and Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Bihta, located on the outskirts of Patna. The facility is designed to enhance the state’s logistics infrastructure by offering warehousing, customs services, and multi-modal transport options.
“This is a significant day for Bihar. The new facility will revolutionize our industrial sector,” Mishra stated. He highlighted that, until now, exporters and importers from Bihar had to rely on ports in other states, located thousands of kilometers away, for customs clearance. “With the opening of the ICD in Bihta, businesses in Bihar will be able to establish themselves in global markets and compete more effectively, thanks to the availability of customs clearance right here,” Mishra told reporters.
The ICD Bihta has received official recognition as an inland container depot from the Revenue Department of the Ministry of Finance.
A senior official from the Bihar Industries Department added, “The depot is well-connected by rail to major ports, including Kolkata, Haldia, Visakhapatnam, and Mundra. It will serve as a one-stop solution for importers and exporters, offering modern warehousing, customs clearance, and transportation services.”
This development is expected to significantly boost trade and industry in the region
