Every year on March 8, the world celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. International Women’s Day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

Logistics is a solution-driven, dynamic industry which is constantly changing. This is why we need people who provide stability and possess skills like empathy, creativity and high emotional intelligence, which are often inherent in women.

Apace Digital Cargo, as part of its series on Women’s Day, spoke to some key women of the industry.

Lets begin with Sakshi Gupta, Country Manager – India, Air Logistics Group, who penned her thoughts so beautifully….

There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise.

The crucial cog in the logistics wheel is ‘women’.

Globally, the logistics sector has taken strides towards a “ Beautiful & Inclusive World of Women ” and we are extremely optimistic about the future of gender equality in this domain.

By investing in women, you are not only countering labour shortage but you are creating Parallelly for the long term – “Empowered, Financially Independent & Secure Homes” with  a structured approach & eventually leading to proper planning, mitigating the risks of future uncertainty.  Taking small steps initially, understanding the micros before the macros & strategically managing daily operations, working meticulously in the trenches before she flies out to reach the summit, in this fiercely competitive environment is what makes a woman logistician.

We see that our industry has reached the stage of an inclusive workplace where it’s not man or woman, but an industry, a cargo community as a whole.

By encouraging diversity & gender equality which permeates from top to bottom, we not only repair this long broken rung of the ladder but also create a positive workplace & foster better performance. The only need is to bridge the gap of income disparities/salaries for the feline folks.

The quintessential ingredients which women bring along are collaboration, rational thinking & the empathy quotient which is paramount in todays’ stressful times to ensure a happy ecosystem. Women bring with them balance, critical problem solving skills with innovative solutions.

They come forth with a pool of talent, a wider spectrum of perspectives and approaches, to do things differently & more efficiently.

One of the promising initiatives being spearheaded by veterans in the industry is Investing in Women with Skill Development Programs focusing on areas like warehousing operations, and logistics management.

Empowering women with such technical aspects and knowledge helps them to learn from the grassroots & compete on a level playing field.

The career life cycle of women in logistics from a cocoon to a butterfly has taken precedence & globally we see women, not only flourishing professionally on their career graphs but have reached the boardrooms to show the way forward.

Whatever you will give a woman she multiplies

Give her a house, she builds a home

Give her veggies, she gives you a meal

Give her the lessons, she will deliver you the right Logistics.

So just give her the thrust & with her internal motivation, resilience, passion & perseverance will push her beyond the status quo, with a firm resolve to act & accelerate on her learning curve.

Mentorship will play a defining role in a woman’s career trajectory and with the right sherpa who guides & shows her the way – no peak is impossible to attain..

To all strong women , I always say – “May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.”
