The largest express transportation company in the world, FedEx Express (FedEx), a division of FedEx Corp., recently announced the addition of its first three electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This move is part of FedEx’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable logistics and lessen its negative environmental impact.

This fleet’s initial phase will concentrate on parcel delivery and pickup services in the UAE’s busiest locations. The newly introduced EVs emit no pollutants at all, and they can operate for 280 km on a full charge.

The trucks can easily complete a full day’s route thanks to their large range and the EV charging stations set up at FedEx facilities in the UAE, making them an eco-friendly option for last-mile delivery solutions.

The business undertook EV testing earlier this year in the UAE to evaluate how well they would function on a typical route carrying a full load of items.

By introducing EVs in the UAE, the firm advances its objective of having carbon-neutral operations worldwide by 2040. One of the important components of this journey is the electrification of vehicles.

By 2025, FedEx has a goal to make 50 percent of FedEx Express global pickup and delivery vehicle purchases electric, with the aim of increasing to 100 percent of new vehicle purchases by 2030.

In the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa region, FedEx deploys more than 400 EVs across eight markets, including India and South Africa, with the region’s largest EV fleet in China, to help increase the pace of decarbonization.

Tayssir Awada, vice president of FedEx Express planning and engineering for the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa region said,“FedEx is committed to innovating and leveraging technologies that enable us to enhance the efficiency of our operations, and provide a better and more sustainable service to our customers.

“As consumers shop more online, with sustainability factors influencing their decisions, integrating EVs into our operations helps meet the evolving preferences of our customers.

“This initiative also helps maximize the positive effects of reducing emissions and creating sustainable urban transportation, thereby supporting the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative.”

Additionally, the business recently introduced FedEx® Sustainability Insights, a cloud-based carbon emissions reporting platform that gives clients in important Middle Eastern and North African regions access to historical emissions data on their shipments inside the FedEx network.

Customers of FedEx may utilise the information to guide their future shipment plans and lessen their environmental effect.
