Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) announced the addition of Jeddah Islamic Port to the REX shipping service operated by Asyad Line, a subsidiary of Omani integrated logistics provider Asyad Group.

ENHANCED CONNECTIVITY

The new route introduced in May features two cargo vessels with a combined capacity of 2,800 TEUs to facilitate connections between Jeddah, India’s Nhava Sheva and Mundra ports, as well as Oman’s Salalah and Sokhna, according to Mawani.

The new service marks a significant step towards enhancing the competitive edge of Saudi Arabia’s busiest port and its container operators. Moreover, It aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy’s (NTLS) objectives to expand the kingdom’s maritime connectivity and boost trade output.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENTS

The authority further noted that Jeddah Islamic Port is undergoing a series of infrastructure upgrades aimed at positioning the Red Sea hub among the world’s top ten maritime hubs.

These developments include the deepening of approach channels and turning basins, as well as the construction of new berths, to accommodate further maritime traffic, strengthen the port’s logistics capabilities, and support the nation’s economic diversification drive.
