The Centre has sanctioned ₹797.17 crore for developing a dedicated green hydrogen jetty and supporting infrastructure at Paradip Port Authority, strengthening India’s clean energy logistics capabilities.
Approved by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), the project will be executed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. The proposed facility will have an annual cargo handling capacity of 4 million tonnes (MTPA), catering to green hydrogen, ammonia and other liquid cargo.
The project will feature a dedicated jetty, storage facilities, pipelines, cargo handling equipment and associated infrastructure. It will also include a dredged depth of 14.3 metres to facilitate the safe handling of liquid cargo vessels.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said the approval reflects the government’s commitment to developing future-ready green infrastructure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He highlighted that the project would strengthen export logistics, support Odisha’s emerging green hydrogen production clusters and improve their connectivity with international markets.
Paradip Port Authority will provide capital assistance of ₹159.43 crore, equivalent to 20% of the project cost, during the construction phase. The project is targeted for completion within 24 months.
Besides green hydrogen and ammonia, the facility will be equipped to handle other liquid cargo, ensuring efficient utilisation during the initial growth phase of the green hydrogen industry while diversifying the port’s cargo portfolio.
Aligned with the objectives of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the project is expected to attract investments in Odisha’s clean energy sector and establish Paradip as a key logistics hub for green energy commodities. It will also feature specialised handling facilities and advanced safety systems to support the storage and movement of green hydrogen derivatives.
