In a move that will further improve Air India’s fleet and operational efficiency and strengthen India’s developing aviation ecosystem, the nation’s top airline, Air India, has commissioned a massive warehouse facility in Delhi to enable storage of more than 1,000,000 engineering spares essential to maintenance, checks, and repairs of its aircraft and ground support equipment.
The centralised warehouse, which spans around 54,000 square feet and is situated close to Terminal 3 in the Cargo complex of Delhi Airport’s Air Cargo Logistics division, would greatly speed up turnaround times for the airline’s aircraft departing from Delhi.
Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD, Air India said, “The warehouse is a major milestone for Air India and a reinforcement of the quality, professionalism, and investment that we are now committed to make. This worldclass facility will not only boost Air India’s fleet and operational efficiency but will also strengthen India’s aviation ecosystem. The warehouse will offer us more proximate access to and better control over our aircraft spares enabling us to meet any engineering requirement promptly – leading to improved punctuality of flights.”
The integrated warehouse, a one-stop shop for storing aircraft spares, tools, and ground support equipment ranging from hardware to sophisticated and complex avionics, hydraulics, structural, pneumatic, and mechanical components, will be the cornerstone of Air India’s engineering function. It is the first facility of its kind for any airline in India.
The warehouse will combine 16 subscale and dispersed locations located across Delhi and Mumbai into a consolidated state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a hub and feeder network for operations throughout India. This will allow the warehouse to fulfil engineering resource requirements for maintenance and service of the Air India, Air India Express, and AIX Connect fleet from a centralised location.
This improves inventory control and streamlines airline operations. The warehouse, which is near to the aircraft hangars for Air India at Terminal 3 of the IGI airport, would enable quick material movement of parts to handle technical concerns.
As Air India continues to develop into a top-tier airline, the new integrated facility will strengthen the nation’s airline engineering warehouse infrastructure,
