A Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed between Emirates Post Group (EPG) and cargo drone carrier Dronamics to investigate the usage of cargo drones in the United Arab Emirates.
In order to allow same-day middle-mile and long-distance deliveries, EPG will investigate and test Dronamics’ freight drone service.
Both firms will work together to create a network of freight drone delivery services across the GCC and the UAE.
Following a successful trial, EPG plans to add the technology used in the cooperation to its network of logistics providers and make it available to the whole logistics sector.
In order to assist the growth of their freight drone operations in the area, EPG also plans to be a launch partner of the forthcoming Dronamics UAE joint venture.
In accordance with the terms of this letter of intent, Emirates Post Group will permit Dronamics to execute Proof-of-Concept (POC) flights in the UAE with a minimum of one drone aircraft by 2024 through its postal and express division, which is administered by Emirates Post.
Svilen Rangelov, chief executive and co-founder of Dronamics, said, “Partnering with Emirates Post Group provides us with the exciting opportunity to work on our expansion to the Middle East and the United Arab Emirates in particular.
“Through this agreement we will look to implement our unique middle-mile cargo drone technology on the UAE market in service of EPG, its customers and its universal service mandate – an important step to achieving our vision of enabling same-day delivery for everyone everywhere.”
Abdulla Mohammed Alashram, group chief executive of Emirates Post Group, said, “With a shared vision of reshaping the future of the logistics sector, EPG and Dronamics are dedicated to enhancing cargo delivery speed, sustainability, and efficiency by deploying state-of-the-art drone technology.
“This partnership represents a significant milestone in the advancement of autonomous cargo drone transportation.”
The LOI was signed during the official launch of the Smart and Autonomous Vehicles Industry (SAVI) Cluster in Abu Dhabi.
