Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal was recently launched by PM Modi and is expected to be a game changer in terms of reducing logistic costs. On 12th December, Pakur siding signalled the departure of the first coal-loaded freight rake for Ropar Thermal Power Plant in Punjab. Along with this, the very first Gati Shakti Cargo terminal of the Eastern Railway at Pakur has come into life as previously in 2015, loading of freight rakes at this terminal was discontinued.
This movement will fetch ₹1.2 crore Railway revenue per rake with an expected 4-rake loading per day. Previously, coal rake from Pakur was loaded through joint collaboration of PANEM. The Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd Authority (PSPCL) have assurance to the local people that the company would provide employment for the villagers and arrange for a development programme through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This will, therefore, provide the local people with job opportunities through various means like deployment as skilled or unskilled labours, vehicle supplies and other modes from time to time.
