How do you think we can celebrate and honour the achievements of women in the cargo and logistics industry on International Women’s Day, and throughout the year?

International Women’s Day is an opportunity to recognize the incredible contributions of women in cargo and logistics, but true progress comes from sustained efforts throughout the year. We can celebrate women’s achievements by showcasing success stories, fostering mentorship programs, and ensuring that women have access to leadership opportunities. Recognizing women’s contributions in industry forums, leadership panels, and awards can also inspire the next generation to step into this field with confidence.

Can you share any challenges you’ve faced as a woman working in the cargo and logistics industry, and also, how did you overcome them?

Cargo and logistics have traditionally been male-dominated industries, and early in my career, I encountered skepticism about my ability to lead and make strategic decisions. Earning credibility required persistence, deep industry knowledge, and a results-driven approach. Rather than being discouraged by biases, I focused on building expertise, delivering impactful results, and creating a network of allies who supported my vision. Over time, I realized that resilience, adaptability, and the ability to embrace change are crucial in overcoming challenges. My journey has reinforced the importance of mentorship, as having strong role models and support systems can make a significant difference.

How can women in the cargo and logistics industry take advantage of the opportunities created by digitalisation to advance their careers and make a meaningful impact in the industry?

Digitalisation is transforming cargo and logistics, offering new career avenues for women. From AI-driven supply chain management to data analytics and automation, there are immense opportunities to innovate and lead. Women should actively engage in digital upskilling, participate in industry workshops, and explore roles in technology-driven logistics operations. The adoption of digital tools also enables flexible work arrangements, making it easier for women to balance career growth with personal commitments. By leveraging technology to drive efficiency, sustainability, and customer-centric solutions, women can take on influential roles and shape the future of this industry.

Please share an excerpt from your journey or any of your experiences working as a woman in the cargo/logistics industry.

One of the defining moments of my career was during my tenure at Lufthansa German Airlines, where I was entrusted with the concept of “Reverse Sales/Import Sales” to bring about line optimization and increase inbound loads into India, thus balancing the import-export equation. The challenge was immense—load optimization directly impacts revenue, and inefficiencies can result in lost opportunities. I tackled this by implementing strategic planning and restructuring operational processes. By focusing on tailored solutions and fostering closer relationships with key clients, I successfully improved Lufthansa Cargo’s load factor and revenue, which earned me the prestigious Individual Oscar Award by Lufthansa Cargo. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of resilience, adaptability, and customer-centric solutions in achieving breakthrough success.
