The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) achieved an all-time high in container traffic, handling 639,336 TEUs in August 2024. This milestone surpasses the previous record of 603,217 TEUs set in July 2024. The significant growth was largely driven by a 19% rise in exports compared to August 2023. Additionally, JNPA handled 7.89 million tonnes of total cargo in August 2024, marking a 7% increase over the same period last year.

Operationally, the port saw a rise in container rail movements, with 593 rakes and 94,466 TEUs handled during August 2024, compared to 550 rakes and 89,694 TEUs in August 2023. Both BMCT and APMT terminals set new records, handling 202,071 TEUs and 192,137 TEUs, respectively—the highest monthly volumes since their inception.

From April to August 2024, JNPA processed 2,930,700 TEUs and 37.42 million tonnes of total cargo, representing a 13% and 6% increase, respectively, over the corresponding period in the previous financial year. The port also handled 2,657 container rakes and 422,465 TEUs during this period, a rise from the 2,591 rakes and 415,287 TEUs handled in the previous year.

JNPA’s consistent growth underscores its operational efficiency and adherence to international standards. By providing sustainable end-to-end logistics solutions, the port continues to enhance the EXIM (export-import) experience for the sector, ensuring seamless operations across all terminals.
