The Logistics Zone at King Salman Energy Park (SPARK) will start operating in 2024. The first and largest private dry port in the area will be located in The Logistics Zone, a cutting-edge, completely automated sector, together with bonded warehouses and on-site customs processing services. It will be run and maintained by SPARK Logistics, a joint venture between SPARK and Hutchison Ports, the foremost international port operator.
In order to act as a hub for the local energy industry, the Logistics Zone will take use of SPARK’s advantageous position in the Eastern Province. It will make it simpler for firms to reach international markets and provide them the tools they need to meet the rising demand for goods connected to energy. When fully operational, the Zone will be able to move up to ten million tonnes of goods with fully automated RTG (Rubber Tyred Gantry Yard) cranes, gates and the most up-to-date non-invasive scanning technology.
Saif Al Qahtani, President and CEO of SPARK, said, “The establishment of the Logistics Zone marks an important milestone for SPARK as we work towards building an integrated, world-class ecosystem in the heart of energy demand for investors and tenants. Through the Zone, we aim to attract significant investment, drive economic growth and create new business opportunities by providing unmatched access and connectivity to the region. This step advances our commitment to build a leading industrial ecosystem that connects the world to opportunities in the Saudi energy sector and beyond.”
The Logistics Zone is a designated logistics zone under the Logistics Masterplan of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. It was created as part of SPARK’s dedication to fostering a thriving energy ecosystem and world-class energy hub that promotes innovation and economic growth in the MENA region and advances the Kingdom’s objectives to become a global logistics hub and expand local manufacturing as outlined in Vision 2030.
