In a significant move, the Maharashtra government approved the Maharashtra Logistics Policy 2024. Developed under the guidance of the State Economic Advisory Council, the policy aims to create 500,000 jobs and generate INR 30,573 crore in revenue over the next decade.

The policy introduces an Integrated Logistics Master Plan designed to optimize the state’s logistics networks and infrastructure. Key initiatives include the development of an international logistics hub in the Navi Mumbai-Pune region, which will be connected to the Panvel International Airport, and a national logistics hub in the Nagpur-Wardha region, linked to the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway. Additionally, the plan calls for the establishment of five state-level and five regional logistics hubs, with a combined budget of INR 7,000 crore.

The policy’s objectives include reducing logistics costs by 4% to 5%, cutting operational time, and minimizing carbon emissions through green initiatives and the adoption of advanced technologies such as AI and blockchain. To encourage investment, the policy offers financial incentives, including subsidies and exemptions, to the first 100 logistics parks in each district. Furthermore, 25 district logistics nodes will be created, with dedicated space in MIDC areas for private logistics operations.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Abhishek Joshi, CEO of Abhi Impact Logistics Solution Pvt. Ltd., one of India’s leading logistics organizations, commented on the policy’s potential impact: “I am thrilled about the profound impact this policy will have on the industry, job creation, and the broader economy. Dedicating 10,000 acres to logistics infrastructure, including 200 logistics parks, creating 25 district logistics nodes, five regional logistics hubs, five state logistics hubs, one EGACITY national logistics hub, and one international logistics hub, will undoubtedly position Maharashtra as a global logistics hub. This will attract significant Domestic and Foreign Direct Investments for years to come,” Joshi added.
