A National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) unit, called the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML), has inked a ₹1,770 crore deal to establish a “multi-modal logistics park” in Bengaluru, a press release from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said.
The project, which would span 400 acres in Bengaluru’s rural district’s Muddelingana Halli, will be the biggest one ever under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan of the federal government.
According to Surya on a social media platform, this multi-modal logistic park site is anticipated to be built close to the future KIADB industrial area. It will integrate multi-mode transportation by linking national highway 648 and the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) on its east and north sides with the Bengaluru-Hubballi-Mumbai rail line on its south. The park is anticipated to be built between 48 and 58 kilometres (kms) of Bengaluru’s railway station and airport, respectively.
The park will be built in three stages, the first of which is anticipated to take two years to complete. The announcement added that it would also be able to handle 30 million metric tonnes (mmt) of cargo by the conclusion of the concession period of 45 years and will significantly improve the industrial zones in the catchment area, including Bengaluru and Tumkur.
“Development of MMLP is a key initiative of the Government of India to improve the country’s freight logistics sector by enabling efficient inter-modal freight movement to lower overall freight costs and time, provide efficient warehousing, improve tracking and traceability of consignments thereby enhancing the efficiency of the Indian logistics sector,” it further added.
