India, according to PM Modi, is now the world’s third-largest aviation market. He said, “Air connectivity has increased in the country and today air travel has become accessible to everyone.” He claimed that his government would be making these air services affordable for all its citizens, not just a small group. A government release said that the new airport will boost socio-economic development of the State and serve the needs of the tourism industry along with having the potential of serving as a key logistics hub, directly connecting many domestic and international destinations. The New Goa International Airport will begin operating in January with domestic cargo operations beginning in February and international cargo operations beginning in March.

Visitors can also get a sense of and experience Goa at the airport. The Goan-native azulejos tiles have been used throughout the airport, and the food court captures the charm of a typical Goan café.
