Swissport International has announced the appointment of Detlef Trefzger as a Non-Executive Director on its Board of Directors. Trefzger previously served as the CEO of Kuehne+Nagel from March 2013 to July 2022, a period during which the company solidified its position as the largest transport and logistics service provider worldwide. He was instrumental in driving investments in new technologies and digitalization, as well as advocating for sustainable transport and logistics solutions. Notably, Trefzger played a key role in the acquisition of Apex International, significantly enhancing Kuehne+Nagel’s airfreight capabilities in Asia.
The Swissport Board of Directors is responsible for establishing strategic priorities and ensuring adherence to corporate governance best practices to support the company’s global operations.
Before his tenure at Kuehne+Nagel, Trefzger held several senior positions at DB Schenker AG, including Executive Vice President of Global Contract Logistics and Supply Chain Management. In addition to his new role at Swissport, he serves on the Boards of easyJet plc (UK), Accelleron Industries AG (Switzerland), Swiss Prime Site AG (Switzerland), and PSA International (Singapore). He is also an operating advisor to Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, a private investment firm, and the founder of the advisory firm Larix Equity.
David Siegel, Chairman of the Board of Swissport International AG, expressed enthusiasm about Trefzger’s appointment, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Detlef Trefzger to our Board of Directors. His exceptional track record and deep industry expertise will be invaluable as we continue to expand our global footprint and deliver exceptional value to our clients.”
Trefzger’s appointment follows the recent addition of Janina Kugel, former Managing Board member and Chief Human Resources Officer at Siemens AG, and Julian Diaz Gonzalez, the former CEO of Dufry, to the Swissport Board of Directors in July 2024.
