The Union Cabinet has unveiled an ambitious ₹50,000 crore plan for the construction of eight major highways. The proposed projects include the 68-km Ayodhya Bypass, the 121-km Guwahati Ring Road, the 516-km Kharagpur-Siliguri Expressway, the 88-km six-lane Agra-Gwalior Greenfield Highway, and a 30-km elevated highway with eight lanes between Nasik and Khed (Pune).

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will undertake these projects through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, with bids being invited from highway developers. Due to the high cost of each project—exceeding ₹1,000 crore—they must be appraised by the inter-ministerial panel of the Public-Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) and receive Cabinet approval before the bidding process.

The Highway Ministry is expected to present a list of additional projects for Cabinet approval by December. To streamline land acquisition, highway agencies will be permitted to use 3D notification only after receiving Cabinet approval.
