Celebrating and honouring women in the cargo and logistics industry involves more than just recognition; it requires ongoing education and awareness. On International Women’s Day, we can host events that not only highlight success stories but also educate attendees about the diverse roles women play in logistics beyond transportation. Throughout the year, mentorship programs and workshops can help foster a supportive community, encouraging women to share their journeys and insights. This consistent recognition will inspire future generations to pursue careers in logistics.

Can you share any challenges you’ve faced as a woman working in the cargo and logistics industry, and also, how did you overcome them?

One of the significant challenges I’ve faced is the pervasive misconception that logistics is solely about moving goods. This limited view often undermines the vast opportunities available in areas like supply chain management, inventory control, and warehouse optimization. To overcome this, I’ve actively engaged in discussions and initiatives that raise awareness about the many roles women can excel in within logistics. By sharing my experiences and knowledge, I’ve helped others see the potential for a fulfilling career in this field.

How can women in the cargo and logistics industry take advantage of the opportunities created by digitalisation to advance their careers and make a meaningful impact in the industry?

Digitalisation is transforming logistics, creating numerous opportunities for women to enhance their careers. By embracing technology, women can specialize in areas that require expertise in AI implementation, data analytics, and inventory management. Understanding that logistics encompasses much more than transportation—such as effective communication and coordination—can help shift perceptions and attract more young talent. Engaging in online courses and networking can empower women to take on more significant roles and drive innovation in the industry.
