From Konkan to the Gulf: Air India Cargo completes first international export shipment from Navi Mumbai

Air India Cargo has successfully completed the first international export shipment from Navi Mumbai International Airport, transporting 1.79 tonnes of fresh Konkan guavas and Drumstick Moringa to Abu Dhabi aboard Air India Express flight IX207 on 15 July. The milestone marks the beginning of international cargo operations from India’s newest gateway and creates faster export opportunities for farmers, traders and businesses across western India.

The new Navi Mumbai–Abu Dhabi route operates three times a week using a Boeing 737-8 with 2.5 tonnes of belly cargo capacity per flight, and is expected to handle around 25 tonnes of cargo every month, strengthening trade links between India and the UAE.

This first export shipment from Navi Mumbai connects growers, traders and businesses in western India directly with one of the region’s most important international markets. Fresh produce is highly time-sensitive, and reliable air connectivity plays a critical role in helping Indian exporters reach global consumers while preserving product quality, said Ramesh Mamidala, Head of Cargo, Air India.

The inaugural shipment also highlighted Air India Cargo’s GDP-certified cold-chain infrastructure, which includes refrigerated transport, temperature-controlled facilities, cool dollies and thermal blankets to maintain the freshness and quality of perishable cargo throughout the journey.

“This first export shipment from Navi Mumbai directly connects growers, traders and businesses in western India with key international markets. Reliable air connectivity and certified cold-chain infrastructure are essential for preserving quality and creating faster, more efficient export pathways that connect Indian farmers and businesses to global opportunities,” added Ramesh Mamidala.

The achievement opens a new trade corridor for India’s agricultural exports, improving market access and connecting farmers with growing demand across the UAE and the wider Gulf region.
