The cargo handled by country’s top 12 major ports in April-October period of the current financial year was almost stagnant at 405.39 million tonnes (MT), as per the Port’s apex body Indian Ports Association (IPA). The ports — Deendayal (erstwhile Kandla), Mumbai, JNPT, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Kamarajar (earlier Ennore), V.O. Chidambaranar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including Haldia) — saw only 0.44 per cent growth in the cargo handled during the period. These ports had handled 403.60 MT of cargo during the corresponding period of the last fiscal.
