Effective from third week of September, Shipping Corporation of India has all set to begin direct service linking Kochi, Tuticorin with Male (Maldives). Expected to enhance bilateral and economic trade between the two countries, the service will deploy a container cum break-bulk vessel that can carry 200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and 3,000 metric tonnes of break bulk cargo, with a round voyage of 10 days. White goods like TV, home appliances, pharma, medicines, iron and steel, clothes, fabrics, furnishers and perishables are the commodities likely to be exported.
